Our Favorite Whiskeys of 2020
2020 has not had much in the way of fond memories so far, but one of our favorite times each year is when we get to look back at some of our favorite bottles that helped get us through the year.
As I compiled my thoughts, it became abundantly clear: 2020 was a great year if you are a whiskey aficionado like me as options that were once hard to find became available for home delivery through Allocated Liquor.
This list isn’t some sort of “Top 5 Whiskeys” and certainly doesn’t include EVERY brand and bottle that I loved in 2020, but it does feature some old favorites as well as some new.
I hope you all get a chance to enjoy these as much as I did!
W.L. Weller | Special Reserve
The Original Wheated Bourbon Whiskey features an exceptionally smooth taste, substituting wheat for rye grain. With a burnt orange color, Special Reserve has a sweet nose with a presence of caramel; tasting notes of honey, butterscotch and a soft woodiness; and a smooth finish with a sweet honeysuckle flair. The softer flavor notes make this bourbon great for sipping or making cocktails
Blanton's Original Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey
Taken from the center-cut or middle sections of the famous Warehouse H, Blanton’s Original Single Barrel was once designated for ambassadors, dignitaries, and Colonel Blanton’s family and friends. Today, everyone has access to the world’s first single barrel bourbon. The taste profile is sweet, with notes of citrus and oak. The creamy vanilla nose is teased with caramel and butterscotch, all underscored by familiar baking spices such as clove, nutmeg, or cinnamon. Blanton’s Original set the standard for single barrel bourbons in 1984. Best served neat or on the rocks. Did you know that if you collect all of the different Blanton bottle toppers and send them in, they will return them to you mounted in a custom piece of wood to look like a horse race? Pretty rad!
Old Blowhard
If you are looking to splurge, look no further than Old Blowhard. At 26-years old, the whiskey contains exuberant, rich flavors with undertones of smoke and honey followed by a gentle finish – dry and spicy with a hint of orange peel that will leave you savoring every last drop. You've earned it.
Michter's 10 Year Rye 2020
The 2020 release of 10-Year Rye leaves Michter’s with a couple of home runs. Michter’s highest-end releases (including the 10, 20, 25, and Celebration bottlings) are well known among collectors for exceptional excellence, and it’s something you can depend on Michter’s to deliver every time. We know this because it’s made the tough decision in previous years to forgo these lucrative releases just because they weren’t good enough.
