Don Julio Tequila was named after its founder, Don Julio González-Frausto Estrada, he began making tequila in 1942 at age 17. With a lot of hard work and sacrifice Gonzalez-Frausto was able to open his own distillery, La Primavera. He worked there for the next 40 years improving his craft. He experimented with perfected various aspects of the tequila-making process, "from growing agave to the bottling of the final product." He called his distillery La Primavera (the Springtime) where he started his first brand Tres Magueyes(really great sipping tequila).
